Popspotting #204: “Breaking Rock Revenge” (Feb. 2, 2012)
Today’s guest only moved to New York two months ago, but she manages to share some of the ambiance of city life along with her picks: “30 Rock” on NBC, “Revenge” on ABC, and “Breaking Bad” on AMC. Andrea Zuniga (@iandrea) once had us on her podcast, so we get to turn the tables with music trivia.

I checked out Revenge after a previous guest mentioned it a few months ago and I have to say it’s definitely a fun show. Like Andrea mentioned, I was surprised and got caught up in the elaborate plot by Emily to get revenge on the people that wronged her father. In many ways it’s a more adult version of Gossip Girl–basically really rich people fighting with one another.
However, it’s not done in a trashy way. Emily’s plan is really well thought out and it’s one of the things that drew me into the show. At first you’re really rooting for her to win, but then there are a few story elements that show just how cold and calculating she really is, which then make you question if what she’s doing is really right.
Just when I think they couldn’t do any more with the show . . . they do find something else that’ll make you go “WHAT THE HECK!?!” I’ve stop trying to guess what’ll happen and am just having fun seeing what happens next.
It’s great to get your review, Matt. It’s come up often enough that we know we have to give it a shot, even though we might have been put off by the “soapy” label.
