Popspotting #149: “Owl City of Time” (Oct. 20, 2011)
Yesterday’s discussion of “Ready Player One” was sparked by Daniel in Boston (@barkowitz), a long-time listener and generous contributor. After that winner of a recommendation, we knew we had to get him on the show to share more great picks.
Today he brings us two great musical acts (Owl City and Shanghai Restoration Project), and two great book series. He then takes on Jen’s infamous trivia questions, going for a TV and music category.
Daniel is a blogging poet at “Talking to Myself,” a contributor to “The 4th Age Podcast,” and the tech-savvy executive director of a synagogue. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone and attended high school in South Carolina. He has a passion for singing, reading, cooking, and raising his two beautiful daughters, Caroline and Rachel, with his wife Rebekah.
So I can’t believe I forgot to mention the author who has taken over the Wheel of Time series with the passing of Robert Jordan — Brandon Sanderson. He has done an amazing job taking over the reins of the series and has fully realized Robert Jordan’s vision.
I’m sure you mentioned Brandon, Daniel. We had such a great talk, a whole lot of good stuff unfortunately got cut. I love that the “Wheel of Time” series is such a coherent universe that it can live beyond Robert Jordan!
I have to agree with the Wheel of Time suggestion!  Although, admittedly, I am horribly behind in the series.  I’ve only read up to book 9 and am failing miserably at my reread that was supposed to catch me up before the last book comes out next year.  Don’t take my lack of reading to be indicative of my opinion of the series, because I really do love it.  I just can’t seem to find the time to read these days (I have 3 young kids).  And I have heard that Sanderson does a great job with the most recent books, and I can’t wait to get to them!
